New York: J. S. Ogilvie, 1890. First edition, 1890. Illustrated with decorative engravings. Decorative Victorian binding in bright red cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and black, patterned endpapers, 160 pages. Very light shelfwear, mainly a bit of light rubbing to the corners and spine ends, slightly faded spine, good hinges, sound text block, very clean pages free from names or other markings. Poetry with Christian religious and inspirational themes by a nineteenth century missionary to West Africa. Each poem references a Bible verse. Van Allen, an AMA (American Missionary Association) teacher, also traveled to Charleston, South Carolina in 1866 to help the poor, mainly the newly freed slaves. A clean and attractive copy of this hard-to-find book.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
