About This Item

Chicago: A.C. McClurg and Company, 1889. Hardcover. Poor+/None. Light blue cloth boards with black titling and gilt decoration, darkened at edges and spine, with gilt titling worn off of spine, and three red stains on front. Front board and spine covering detached from binding and rear board detached. Dampstaining along 1/8-in. of top edges to pg. 197. Prelim pages chipped at edges. Despite all this, the pages are square and lovely, if a little toned in the margins only. Unmarked and binding is holding, though boards obviously need repair. 8vo. BOOK INFO: 21 chapters of escapades from tramp life in Chicago, hard luck in the Sierras and desert of California, to Mexico, South America, Australia, Japan and China, India, Jerusalem and Egypt. With B&W engraving and this spirited dedication: 'To you, Reader, who enjoy a simple straightforward story, this Book is dedicated. It will teach you nothing. It conceals no new theories. If it can help you to while away pleasantly a few idle hours, or make you, for a short time, forget the cares which more or less wear upon all of us, it will have reached its aim, and will have done for you what it has done for The Author.'
