About This Item

London, U.K.: Oxford University Press, 1913. Classic text considered to be one of the finest scholarly achievements, contains the third installment of Desiderius Erasmus' famous historic letters written during the early era of the Renaissance. Prof. Allen has meticulously reproduced these volumes of letters from the earliest sourcesof manuscripts and books, with minimal corrections due to deprivation of the original text, and close adherence to the original format. Text includes a list of manuscripts about which information is desired; a table of letters; list of abbreviations commonly used; addenda and corrigenda for Vols. I, II, and III; and index of correspondents. Text in Latin. 640 pgs. Illustrated with 8 plates. Two pgs. in the table of letters and the first index page are uncut. Front and rear endpaper have a light brown vertical streak on the page, probably from a paper bookmark insert. Prior owner's nameplate pastedown on front endpaqper; tiny UK bookseller's nameplate pastedown on lower front endpaper with a four-digit number above it, and on the upper corner of dustjacket. Dustjacket spine slightly browned; original print still crisp. Minimal shelfwear. In mylar. Scarce.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
