Based on the author's experiences in the summer of 1846 in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and Kansas. Includes an account of weeks spent buffalo hunting with a band of Oglala Sioux. v, 328 pp. 8vo clothbound hardcover in dust jacket with artwork by Nathan Machtey. Illustrated endpapers by Paul Spencer Johst. Frontispiece illustration of a buffalo hunt. VG/VG with moderate wear and signs of age. Sound binding. Jacket is price-clipped and protected by a clear archival cover. Ink signature of the original owner and laid-in 1932 birthday card from a friend.
Synopsis
On April 28, 1846, Francis Parkman left Saint Louis on his first expedition west. The Oregon Trail documents his adventures in the wilderness, sheds light on America's westward expansion, and celebrates the American spirit.
