About This Item
Oklahoma City, OK: Oil Workers Industrial Union No. 230 of the IWW, 1924. Two issues of the mimeographed 8.5x14 inch bulletin, a March 20 Special Bulletin (8 pages) and Monthly Bulletin No. 13, dated March 31 (4 pages). Both have pieces torn from the top margin where they were separated from staples (no text lost), fold creases, and on the Special Bulletin, some closed tears around the staples. Not found in OCLC as of April 2024. The March 20 issue is devoted to the union's conference, held in Oklahoma City. "What started as only a partial success turned into a splendid gathering when four members, who had come from California by 'tin lizzie' arrived on the floor of the conference. Their arrival was delayed by bad roads. In fact, they claimed to have pushed the 'lizzie' alI the way from Amarillo, Texas to Oklahoma City. However once arrived they soon forgot the handicaps and threw much vim and vigor into the gathering of 'old times.'" The arrival of the California delegation raised total attendance from four to eight. Among the decisions of the conference, listed in this bulletin, was the movement of headquarters to Chicago. Both issues of the newsletter also note labor actions and legal disputes in various cities.
