Philadelphia: William W. Woodward, 1807. Hardcover. g. 2 volumes. 8vo. Ex library. xv,431pp. 418pp. Original calf with gilt decorated spine. Title plate. Library plates to spine. Half-title page states: "Woodward's First American Edition, Philadelphia, May 7th, 1807." The true first edition was published in 1804. This copy is greatly expanded compared to the 1804 edition. Scarce work not in Rosenbach! Spine has been crudely glued by previous owner. Front board split along spine on Vol.I. but still attached. Rubbing and scuffing to boards. Corners bumped and rubbed. 3 small pieces of cello-tape residue on front and rear endpaper. Page 155 in Vol. I incorrectly numbered 145, as issued. Library stamp-and pocket in front endpaper. Signature of previous owner on title page. "Oriental Customs or an Illustration of the Sacred Scriptures, by an explanatory application of the Customs and Manners of the Eastern Nations, and especially the Jews, therein alluded to, together with observations on many difficult and obscure texts, collected from the most celebrated travellers, and the most eminent critics." Binding in fair, interior in very good condition.
