About This Item

Philadelphia: William W. Woodward, 1807. Second printing. Hardcover. Good +. 8vo. 2 vols. 431; (4), 418pp. Indices in both volumes plus publisher's ads at rear. Cont. tree calf with black calf spine labels. An ex-library copy with minimal markings, i.e., small private library bookplates on front pastedowns; fade rubber stamps on front free endpapers and old paper labels at foot of spines. Bindings a bit rubbed and outer front hinges cracked but holding nicely.

A scarce biblical commentary printed in America in the early 19th century. The "Oriental"s in the title were, in fact, The Jews.

Note: This edition is greatly expanded from the one volume first edition published by Woodward in 1804. Page 155 in Vol. I is incorrectly numbered 145.

Rosenbach. An American Jewish Bibliography. #132. Singerman. Judaica Americana. #0149.
