This is a nice bright copy of Atkinson's journey which took him 39,500 miles; contains several full page illustrations as well as a number of text illustrations. Original blue cloth covers with gilt spine lettering. Small old paper sticker on front end paper, old round blindstamp on first page and one other page (... Military Academy), and old number on title page [997], corners of a few pages lightly crimped on bottom edge (probably from being carelessly reshelved). Indexed, 20 pages of publisher's ads in the rear. Published a year after the 1858 Harper's edition. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 483 pages .
