About This Item

London: Day and Son, 1855. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Second edition. Small 4to, vi, 178pp. 28 lithographed plates (including 13 chromolithographs) In original embossed black papier mache covers, recently rebacked in black leather with gilt lettering. Marbled endpapers renewed. A number of cracks to covers, open leaves a little spotted, sporadic marginal soiling [thumbprints] throughout, small ink numbers to the copyright page and to the upper outside corner of the last blank, but on the whole a good copy internally, in a well-preserved example of this odd little bi-way in the development of publisher's bindings.
