About This Item
Bern, Switzerland: Kunsthalle Bern, 1983. Vintage poster for the Dan Graham retrospective exhibition "Pavilions," and musical performances by Glenn Branca and Graham, at the Kunsthalle in Bern, Switzerland, March 12 through April 17, 1983, with musical performances on March 11, 16, and 17, 1983, designed by Albin Uldry.
Artist, writer, and curator, Graham was a wide-ranging post-conceptual artist whose work was heavily influenced by the work of minimal and conceptual artists, and worked in performance art, installations, sculpture, and photography. Graham's "Pavillions," some of the artist's most popular works, were made beginning in the late 1970s until the artist's death in 2022. A series of outdoor sculptures placed in public spaces, made of steel or wood lattice and transparent or mirrored glass, the pavilions intentionally blur the line between sculpture and architecture, and "invite a dialogue between spectator and landscape, art work and art context, and raise questions about the uses and effects of sites designated as public."
Avant-garde composer, guitarist, and luthier, Branca is best known as a driving force behind no-wave, totalism, and noise rock.
The musical performances by Graham and Branca utilized a large two-way mirror and a video screen showing a six-second time-delayed view of the room for the audience to view the performance. One of the Kunsthalle performances was filmed as a 45 minute video as "Performance and Stage-Set Utilizing Two-Way Mirror and Video Time Delay" (1983).
27.5 x 39.25 inches. Light edgewear, else Near Fine.
