Cream paper dust jacket with red and black frame has chips to the top front and corners, DJ spine cover bit grubby, flaps intact. Book covers are a little faded at the top edge, some minor wear, interior end papers have some foxing, text is clean and unmarked. Stated first edition. An important work on totalitarianism. Talmon, 1916-980) was Professor of Modern History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He studied the genealogy of totalitarianism, arguing that political Messianism stemmed from the French Revolution, and stressed the similarities between Jacobinism and Stalinism. He coined the terms "totalitarian democracy" and "Messianic democracy/political Messianism". ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 366 pages .
