About This Item
3 volumes in custom slipcase.
Robert Henry Newell's The Orpheus C. Kerr Papers presented the first published collections of the writings of one of Abraham Lincoln's favorite humorists.
When General Montgomery Miegs told Lincoln he had not read Kerr's volumes, the president exclaimed, "any one who has not read them must be a heathen!"
Included are The Orpheus C. Kerr Papers. NY: Blakeman & Mason, 1862. The Orpheus C. Kerr Papers. Second Series. NY: Carleton, 1863. The Orpheus C. Kerr Papers. Third Series. NY: Carleton, 1865. Above average condition, cloth covers and endsheets.
All volumes show wear typical of their age, including lightly chipped extremities; light toning and minor foxing; vol. 1 rear hinge starting; else very good. Housed in a handsome brown cloth custom slipcase; faux leather with gilt lettering. Slipcase shows a minor gouge in the gilt lettering for volume 1.
