About This Item
New York: Printed and Published by the Author, 1916. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Complete two-volume set. Very Good, bound in matching quarter leather bindings, some rubbing and discoloration to the leather on the hinges, traces of rubbing to the green paper on the boards. Square and firmly bound with gilt top edges, remarkably clean internally. Harris' biography of Wilde, written with the intention of revealing Wilde to be a "Prometheus-artist clamped, so to speak, with banks of steel to the huge granitic cliff of English puritanism." It's fitting Harris wrote this defensory biography given his classic MY LIFE AND LOVES was banned for the same perceived sexual perversion that led to Wilde's downfall.
