Small hardback, bound in the original blue cloth, gilt titling to spine and upper board. 18 × 11cm, xi + 88pp. In this classic of Portuguese literature, one of Eca de Queiroz's incursions into the fantastic, a young nobleman falls in love with a married woman and is entrapped by her husband, but help comes from the unlikeliest of sources. Condition: A rare first edition but in fair condition only. The blue cloth is rubbed to the corners, faded to the spine and with surface discoloration to the boards. The front hinge is cracked but secure. The main body of text is in good order and is in good readable condition.
