About This Item

The First UK Printing published by Harrap and Co Ltd in 1939. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Correct first issue with red boards and gilt titling. Mild toning to the text-block with light spotting to the prelims and to a few page edges in places. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. It is the correct first issue with price 7/6 net to the lower front flap. Toning to the spine with some edge-wear at the spine ends. Closed tears to the rear cover , spine and flap folds. The Bip Pares wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Ruthven Todd was a British writer, born in Edinburgh and educated at the Edinburgh College of Art. He is best remembered for his two allegorical and surreal quest novels, 'Over the Mountain (1939') and 'The Lost Traveller (1943)', in which a strayed wanderer is sentenced by the minions of a faceless state to an impossible task, and is ultimately sacrificed. Very scarce with such attributes. Ashtonrarebooks welcomes direct contact.
