In a remarkable series of color photographs, Miyazaki presents a visual natural history of a single species the Ural owl of Japan's mountainous Ina district. His stunning photographs record owls tracing and capturing prey, feeding and rearing their young, and pursuing their courtship and mating rituals. He even captures the usually invisible wing movements of the owl, which can fly at speeds of up to thirty feet per second. Manabu Miyazaki is a Japanese wildlife photographer. His work FukurÅ / Ural Owl won the Domon Ken Award in 1990. In 1996 two of his books won the Kodansha Publishing Culture Award.
