New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Company [1965], 1965. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo. [4], v-vi, [4], 180, [2] pp. Yellow cloth with black lettering on the front board and spine; orange topstain. Price of $4.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Illustrated with several in-text drawings and a few in-text photographs. A history of the American Black experience from the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the twentieth century. The second book in a three-volume series, volume one began at 1619 and volume three ends in 1966. Topstain somewhat faded; jacket shows a few traces of edge wear including a tiny closed tear to the rear panel.
