About This Item

This is a photo-document of the Artek Camp (Aртек) located in Hurzuf, Crimea. Located on the black sea, and with a comparatively warm climate, the camp was open all year round. By 1969 the camp had an area of 3.2 square km, and consisted of 150 buildings, including three medical facilities, a school, the film studio Artekfilm, three swimming pools, a stadium with a seating capacity of 7,000, and playgrounds for various other activities. It was considered a privilege for children from all around the soviet block and other communist countries to attend Artek. Profusely illustrated throughout with color photos featuring the campers arriving by bus, eating meals, cleaning, fishing, swimming at the beach, playing games and participating in camp cerimonies. Text in Russian, English, German and French. Scarce.
Light scratches, bumps and creasing to front, back, spine and corners of wrappers. Interior with light age toning to edges of pages. Wraps and interior in overall very good condition.
