Original pictorial red cloth, titles stamped in black on the front cover, and state seal of the state of California embossed on the rear cover, n. p. (32 pp.) plus 12 pp. of "Description of Views," illustrated from photogravure tinted views. Booklet contains 30 pages of tinted photographs of scenes and views in California, Colorado and Oregon. Views include the capitol at Sacramento, El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, the Tick Observatory, Cliff House and Seal Rocks in San Francisco, Palace Hotel, Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, Temple Block in Salt Lake City, the Pavilion at Garfield Beach in Great Salt Lake, Virginia City, Nevada, Portland, Oregon, Lake Tahoe, Willemette Falls, Oregon City, Rogue River Valley, Oregon, and much more. All views are described by E. McD. Johnstone. Former owner's brief inked gift notation, front fly leaf complete but loose, as is one other mid-text page, else internally clean with spine ends and corners rubbed. Overall a very good copy of a group of attractive views of 1888.
