Corners slightly rubbed. Scuffing, rubbing and staining to boards. Top page edge gilt. Owner's signature to inside of front board and front endpaper. Some browning to pages, not affecting text. Frontispiece, protected by tissue guard. REcolored b/w photograph laid in to p. 85. Great historical work. Magnificently illustrated with 26 full-page b/w paintings (including frontis) and throughout with b/w in-text paintings and sketches. In English. In overall good- condition.
