About This Item
Amsterdam: 2007. 468pp., 17 colour, 185 monochrome illustrations. Cloth 29.5x23cms. ISBN: 9789027249616. While influenced by Caravaggio and regarded as one of the Utrecht Caravaggisti along with Honthorst and van Baburen, ter Brugghen drew upon earlier Netherlandish traditions in his work. Avidly collected, not only by his fellow countrymen, but by cognescenti such as Charles I, his surviving oeuvre including workshop pieces and lost works are here catalogued. Some 89 authentic paintings, 54 associated with his workshop, 141 rejected works, 42 lost works and 10 drawings linked to him are studied in depth. Text in English. Catalogue raisonné.
