About This Item
New York: Double,Page & Company 1914 (c.1913) " The primary purpose of this book is to tell the layman the story of the Panama Canal. It is written, therefore, in the simplest manner possible, considering the technical character of the great engineering feat itself, and the involved complexities of the diplomatic history attaching to its inception and undertaking"(taken in part from the preface). A beautiful panoramic pull-out insert will be found in excellent condition, opppsite the title page. It is titled "Bird's-eye View of the Panama Canal". The book offers 32 chapters beginning with Chapter I....'The Land Divided-The World United', Chapter II.... 'Great Engineering Project' etc. through to 'The Panama-Pacific Exposition'. A generous list of illustrations provided and a list of diagrams. The many full-page photographs are on heavier semi-gloss stock....these illustrations from photographs taken by Ernest Hallen, the official photographer of the Isthmian Canal Commission. White print to burgundy cloth boards bright. Mild light-color splotching to some leaves. Does not affect print in any way. Pin-hole damage to small area of front endpaper gutter. No ownership markings. The book remains tight, square and most serviceable.. Hard Cover. Very Good.
