Pynson Printers, New York, 1936. First Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. DARD HUNTER. A Papermaking Pilgrimage to Japan, Korea and China, New York: Pynson Printers, 1936. Quarto, copy No. 117 of an edition of 370, pp. 148, 2 (ad, colophon), numerous photogravure plates, 50 specimens of paper gathered on the pilgrimage, printed paper-covered boards quarter-bound in black morocco with gilt lettering and red rules and device to spine, slipcased. Signed on the colophon by Hunter and Elmer Adler, the Pynson printer, small bookseller sticker on rear paste-down. Hunter, probably the greatest-ever authority on paper-making, wrote in his autobiography that this edition was printed on handmade Japanese mulberry bark paper, and the paper covers were printed from an old woodblock he found in northern Korea. (see My Life With Paper, p 128). Condition of this book: Small chip in spine, else fine. Special Limited Edition, first issue in this format. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
