New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1966. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Third Printing. Introduction by Robie Macauley. Very Good in a Very Good jacket, unclipped ($7.50), generally rubbed and bumped at the surface and edges, a few small closed tears. Blue cloth, lightly bumped, with a red ink panel with gilt lettering and designs on the spine. Square and firmly bound with a red top stain, bookplate pasted on the front endpaper, a few pencil annotations scattered throughout. Ford's tetralogy of British life before, during, and after World War I. Hailed by Graham Greene as "almost the only adult novels dealing with the sexual life that have been written in English. They are almost our only reply to Flaubert.
