About This Item

Macclesfield, England: The Paradise Fanzine, 1989-90. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Near Fine. A contiguous run comprising the first five (of twelve total) issues of this fanzine devoted to the music of English new wave rock group New Order, created to capitalize on the band's greatly expanded popularity following the release of the more dance-oriented "True Faith" single (1987) and the subsequent album Technique (1989). Macclesfield, England: The Paradise Fanzine, 1989-90. Five volumes, all saddle-staped in printed colored-paper wraps; 8.25 x 6 in.; various paginations from 26 to 36pp. Although not stated, Factoryrecords org website gives a print run of 1200 copies per issue. All issues fine save no. 2, whose pink cover shows minor fading and soiling. A scarce publication, particularly these early issues. Contents are black-and-white photocopy, attractively designed and laid-out, and consist of a mix of news, band history, fan letters, live show reviews, radio interview transcripts, etc., illustrated with promotional photos, photographs of set lists, and other images. Though strictly an unofficial, fan-run publication, Paradise from its first issue had the support of New Order bassist Peter Hook, who provided letters and other materials for publication. Laid in to issue 2 is a photocopied advertisement listing for sale copies of various bootlegged New Order shows. Laid in to issue 4 is an official promo sticker for the album Technique (likely added by the original owner, as the the sticker states it was included for free with a Feb 1989 issue of the music magazine NME).
