About This Item
New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Translated by Gregory Rabassa. Fine in a Fine jacket, unclipped ($12.95). Red cloth on the boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound, clean internally. A remarkably fresh copy of the first English translation of the novel originally published in Cuba in 1966. According to the jacket, the novel is "both an archetype and a cosmos of American society; it is as perceptive and psychologically intricate as Proust's view of France, as vigorous and sometimes as corroded as Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha County.
