Description:
Missouri Meadow Lark ,Audubon, The original hand coloured lithographs done by the Philadelphia firm of J.T. Bowen
John Audubon (1785 – 1851), whose surname became synonymous with birds, produced a prolific body of work, including over 435 paintings of birds. America's dominant wildlife artist for half a century, Audubon's childhood fascination with birds extended into his adulthood, and he spent days and weeks on the frontier, amassing an enormous portfolio of life-size bird drawings. Reflecting his deep love of birds and his concern for conservation, the Audubon Society was established in his name in the late 1800s, years after his death. His work remains the standard against which 20th and 21st century bird artists are still measured.

Bright, bold colors, heavy paper, very good. ELEAZAR ALBIN (1690 – 1742) was an English naturalist and watercolorist illustrator who wrote and illustrated a number of books including A Natural History of English Insects (1720), A Natural History of Birds (1731–38) and The Natural History of Spiders and other Curious Insects (1736). Nothing is known of Albin's early life, though he may have been German-born; he claimed to have been in Jamaica in 1701. In 1708 he is known to have been married and living in Piccadilly, London. Albin taught watercolor painting before being instructed in natural history by silk weaver and naturalist Joseph Dandridge. Description:
Portland, Maine:: Rebecca Goodale,, 2002.. Edition of 10. 9 x 8.5" hand-colored prints with collage in magic wallet binding with wraparound case. Rebecca Goodale: "Two rare moths in Maine that share the same habitat are winged adults during different months, so even though they live together they are never seen at the same time." From Goodale's Threatened and Endangered Exhibit, this book focuses on two threatened Maine moths that share a common habitat but mature in different months. Goodale uses a magic wallet form which unites the twilight moth, April, and zanclognatha, July, in a pitch pine / scrub oak barren setting. Using this format restricts the viewer to see both moths simultaneously but these two species are adults in different seasons so one would not see them in the same view.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Gulf, a sweeping cultural and natural history of the bald eagle in America. The bald eagle is regal but fearless, a bird you're not inclined to argue with. From dust jacket: "The primary aim of this book is an interpretation of the main adaptations of birds for breeding-whether a species lests solitarily or in colonies, whether it is monogamous or has several mates, the lumber of eggs that it lays, the relative size of its eggs, the rate of development of its eggs and young, and the age at which it first breeds. Description:
Rising from sandbars on the Platte River with clarion calls, the sandhill crane (Grus canadensis) feels the urgency of spring migration. Elegant, noble, and spiritual, the sandhill crane is one of the most ancient of all birds. More than a half-million strong, flying in squadrons, these majestic creatures point northward to their Arctic and sub-Arctic breeding ranges. Theirs is an epic story of endurance through the ages. With 153 stunning color photographs, On Ancient Wings presents sandhill cranes in their wild but increasingly compromised habitats today. Over the course of five years, Michael Forsberg documented the tall gray birds in habitats ranging from the Alaskan tundra, to the arid High Plains, from Cuban nature preserves to suburban backyards. With an eye for beauty and an uncommon persistence, the author documents the cranes' challenges to adapt and survive in a rapidly changing natural world. Forsberg argues that humankind, for its own sake, should secure the cranes' place in the future.… Read More
