About This Item

Waukesha, WI: Kalmbach, 2002. 127 pp, oblong (8 1/2" H x 11" D). Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs. "20th Century Limited, Broadway Limited, Capitol Limited, Green Diamond, South Wind. All names of great passenger trains that served the East and South during the twentieth century. Though they looked different and traveled in different directions over different lines, these trains had at least one thing in common: Chicago was their home. In fact, Chicago played that role for hundreds of less-glamorous, nevertheless significant, trains that served the east coast and southern cities of America. During the late 1940s a passenger train arrived or departed the big city every 51 seconds. Chicago was the biggest and busiest railroad hub in the nation. Author Joseph Welsh has selected more than 100 great photos from Kalmbach's David P. Morgan Library to graphically illustrate the role Chicago played in the movement of passengers to and from the east coast and the southern seaboard. It's a breathtaking record of the golden years of railroading in America." Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - minor edge wear, one or two minor wrinkles.. First Printing. Soft Cover. Very Good+.
