A few smudges to boards, spine backing a bit cracked and with a couple of small chips, old bookseller's catalogue description tipped to the front free endsheet, fore-tips worn, internally very good and bright. First US edition thus, edited by Emerson from Carlyle's original text (and, in part, manuscript), with a prefatory note by him. One of 1500 copies. From the distinguished collections of Henry W.
