Taylor to Bill Safire, with laid-in note from President Richard Nixon praising the book.. Octavo, 383pp. Red hardcover, spine in black cloth with title in gilt. No additional printings noted on copyright page. In publisher's dust jacket, $18.95 on front flap,in fine condition. The author of this book, John H. Taylor, was the director of the Nixon Library and chief aide to former President Nixon. He inscribed the book to William Safire on the half title: "To Bill Safire - With respect and also appreciation for his wonderful - Though too seldom heeded - advice on language. RHR." Additional note from former President Richard Nixon on his personal stationery to Bill Safire, recommending this book to him. He finished the letter with a personal note: "He's not yet in your class but he's getting there!." William Safire (1929-2009) served as a speech writer for Richard Nixon during his 1960 and 1968 presidential campaigns. He joined Nixon Administration in 1968 as a speechwriter for President Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew.
