About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grove Press, 2002. Minor edge and corner wear, gently scuffed and scratched, small crease in the lower corner of the front cover, some writing in ink on the inner front cover page, overall a very crisp and clean signed first edition! Signed by the author on the title page! 312 unmarked and uncreased pages! "Enger brings us eleven-year-old Reuben Land, an asthmatic boy in the Midwest who has reason to believe in miracles. Along with his sister and father, Reuben finds himself on a cross-country search for his outlaw older brother who has been controversially charged with murder. Their journey unfolds like a revelation, and its conclusion shows how family, love, and faith can stand up to the most terifying of enemies, the most tragic of fates.". Signed by Author(s). First Edition / First Printing. Trade Paperback. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Synopsis

Peace Like a River (2001) is a best-selling novel by Leif Enger, who took the title from the lyrics of the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul", which was performed at his wedding. Enger wrote the novel to amuse his family, taking story suggestions from his children and giving the lead character asthma to encourage one of his sons, also an asthmatic. A film version written by Kathy McWorter is scheduled for release in 2009.

Reviews

On Jul 17 2009, Egolpis said:
This is an outstanding First Novel, although I would not recommend his later work. This was the first book in many years where I actually both laughed and cried out lound in reading it. This elegant piece of fiction will delight you. If you enjoy it, you may wish to try "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving.
