About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1962. First American Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Xii, 201 Pp. Red Cloth, Gilt. First Printing, American. Fine In Near Fin Dust Jacket, Oddly Unpriced But Not A Book Club Edition. The Author Addresses "Disarmament" As If It Were A Thing To Which Aggressive Parties Would Ever Agree, As If One Could Discuss Disarmament With Orcs As They Spread Over Your Lands In An Rgy Of Complete And Final Destruction. Disarmament Could Be Discussed With Intelligent, Happy, Non-Aggressive Nations, But There Is No Explanation Here Why They Would Do So When Faced With A World In Which The Vast Majority Of People Are Unable Or Unwilling To Hold Their Governments To Responsible Policies And Thus End Up With A Long Slow March Towards Autocracy With All The Added Power Of Modern Technology. We Can Pretend People Are Better Than That, But There Is No Evidence That Is Happening In The Near Future.
