He emerged as one of a very few to publicly condemn the racism hurled at Jackie Robinson when Robinson was brought up to the Dodgers in 1947. In 2005 a bronze sculpture of the iconic image of Reese with his arm around Robinson's shoulder was placed at MCU Park [Home of the NY Mets minor league franchise - Cyclones] A 10 time All-Star, Reese was elected into the hall of fame in 1984..
