Foreign Languages Publishing House, Moscow, 1954. First Edition. Hardcover (1/4 Cloth 3/4 Boards). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Photographic. preface  in Russian and the same preface in English  by the author. Photographic frontispiece  showing Paul Robeson surrounded by his human barriers. The text is illustrated with photographs showing police brutality, injuries sustained and of vehicles damaged. 1/4 Dark red coloured cloth covered backstrip with six gilt, of three lines each, lines. 3/4 Cream coloured textured boards with red coloured embossed titles to the front panel. The author's reminiscences of his involvement of the concert at Peekskill, and its aftermath, where Paul Robeson was attacked by rightwingers, including a sniper, while giving the concert for civil rights. Softening to the backstrip edges with bumping of the lower book corners  underlying board is visible. Heavy rubbing and staining to the book panels. Browning and fox into the text block edges with aged honing of the pages. Offset tanning to the endpapers and original bookseller's ticket to the lower right hand corner of the front paste-down.
