FIRST EDITION (1919). 285 x 215 mm, 11½ x 8¾ inches, original publisher's deep red cloth, gilt lettered and illustrated on upper cover and spine, 312 pages. 8 delightful tissue guarded mounted colour plates, charming black and white illustrations throughout, many full page. Binding slightly rubbed, very slight wear to head and tail of spine and corners, couple of 3 mm (1/8") nicks to cloth at head of spine, bright gilt on upper cover and spine, front inner paper hinge cracked, binding firm. Old bookplate on pastedown, portrait of Marie Queen of Rumania from magazine mounted on front endpaper. Rusty paperclip mark to top edge of front endpaper and half-title, top edges just faintly browned, very slight horizontal crease to some top margins, 2 small closed tears to 1 top margin expertly repaired. Plates perfect. Clean bright very good plus copy. Only first editions have GILT decorated binding, reprints are in yellow cloth.
