Knoetig, Éditeur, Bruxelles, 1889; large 8vo, 170 x 250mm; pp46 + contents page at the end; thread sewn, no covers as such but with the equivalent of a cover in the form more of a printed dust wrapper in a translucent material resembling parchment; spine and the top edge of the front somewhat cracked and with the binding threads somewhat loose; some llight foxing of the pages but general good and clean. The pamphlet has two chapters on the old school and a further six on the then modern school of English, or perhaps more accurately British, painting. ..... ..... ...... ..... ..... The exposition referred to is the Exposition Universelle de 1889, a world's fair running inn Paris from 5 May to 31 October 1889 and the fith of ten such major expositions held in the city from 1855 to 1937. The centre piece for the exposition was the Eiffel Tower, celebrating the centennial anniversary of the French Revolution. This celebration of the overthrowing of the French monarchy led to boycotts from continuing monarchies, including the UK. The exposition had over 61,000 official exhibitors and attracted some 33 millionn visitors, making a profit of eight million Francs.
