About This Item

Pre - WIZARD of OZ WORK by THOMPSON: ARTHUR HENDERSON (TWINKIES) ART !!

TRUE FIRST EDITION by: Ruth Plumly Thompson -- Wizard of OZ Sequel Author!! -- Copyright 1918 by P.F. Volland Co., RARE FIRST PRINTING!!

This Tale, written in 1918, was her first Volland Title, and was done shortly before Thompson was chosen to take over writing the Wizard of Oz Sequels following the death of L. Frank Baum. It was this effort that led to her OZ career.

...And a great deal of why it was such a success is the Fabulous Art Work of ARTHUR HENDERSON !!
It is a tale in rhyme of the elf-like men of the town of Perhaps who decide to go on an adventure to see the world. It is dramatically illustrated throughout, with dozens of in text Color Illustrations, several half-page or larger, and a Dozen full page Color Plates -- not counting the illustrated end papers!!

It was these little fellows who were the inspiration for the late 1920's TWINKIE TOWN TALES series of 4 titles (1926-1929) done by Henderson for the Hamilton Brown Shoe Co. in a format identical to the Volland "Sunny Book" series. No one does Elves like Henderson!!

As you can see from the list at the rear, this "Happy Children" Series has some of the most sought after Volland titles -- including many illustrated by his famous contemporaries Johnny Gruelle and Tony Sarg -- and this one is one of the hardest to find!
Very Good Condition, with slight stress and chipping on paper spine cover, (typical for these delicate books), and some minor corner and edge wear. Cover Colors are Brilliant and even.

Binder is still completely tight and hinges are holding well. No Marks or Damage, and the pages are remarkably clean and bright (end papers somewhat tanned, again typical).

Overall a VERY NICE Example, in RARE FIRST PRINTING -- No other editions/printings listed!
