About This Item
Paris: Marcilly. Printer: Firmin Didot Freres. First Edition thus. Cartonnage romantique. Slipcase of same type. . Very Good. Circa 1830s. Oblong miniature, 41 by 55 mm. 94 pp. Four wood-engraved plates, with touches of amateurish hand-coloring. In our view, these daubs of color are crude, and thus they neither enhance the plates, nor though, we hasten to add, do they detract. Spielmann 290A. Gumuchian 3573. The binding is a pink romantique cartonnage type, with black lined decoration. With a slipcase from another Macilly title, "Le Petit Florian". This slipcase, happily, fits the book's size perfectly, and being also pink, can easily be mistaken as intended for this title. Both the binding and the slipcase have light to moderate wear, with rubbing, etc., but both are still well preserved.
