About This Item
SHERWOOD, Robert. THE PETRIFIED FOREST. NY: Scribner's, 1935. 8vo., cloth in dust jacket. First Edition. Signed presentation from Sherwood to actor Tom Fadden, who played Ruby in the original Broadway production. "To Tom Fadden, Who played a cop in "This Is New York" and a gangster in this one- and if I ever have a play with the part of a Pope in it, he can give a fine performance of that, too. With grateful regards from his friend, Robert M. Sherwood. New York, January, 1936." Also laid-in is an original black-and-white photograph of Fadden, and signed by him, on stage with actor Leslie Howard, who played Alan Squier. Humphrey Bogart played Duke Mantee in the same play and is pictured pouring himself a drink in the lower left-hand corner of the photograph. Also laid-in is an autograph postcard signed from Sherwood to Fadden, discussing the New York theatre scene. A wonderful association copy. Very Good (light dampstaining across exterior lower edge of covers, some staining gutters of endpapers); some edgewear (small chips, tears, creases & little dampstaining) d/j. Enclosed in a custom-designed, leather & cloth clam-shell box, with the raised-band spine stamped in silver and with the front cover depicting the image on the dust jacket. A nice presentation of a classic Bogart flick! $2850.00.
