About This Item
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1918. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Mustard cloth with black lettering, rules and pictorial stamping. 353pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, 19 full-page called-for plates. Very good. Mild binding wear, else tight and internally fine. Attractive first edition of the only hardbound appearance of this popular "Redbook Magazine" short story character, a down-to-earth Sherlock Holmes wannabee minus the brilliance. The delightful illustrations are by "New Yorker" staple and Eustace Tilley creator graphic artist Rea Irvin (1881-1972). Rather scarce.
