About This Item
1690 Lucian Samosata Philosophers for Sale Greek Satire Mythology Philosophy
A rare, late 17th-century edition of the works of Lucian of Samosata, a 2nd-century Greek satirist. Lucian wrote a variety of works including comedies, dialogues, essays, and commentaries. He discusses mythological figures such as Hercules, Achilles, Zeus, Timon of Athens, Hermes, and others. One of his lesser known (but no less important) works was 'Philosophers for Sale'. This work is a satirical comedy where Lucian mocks philosophers by creating a scene where they are for sale at a market.
This 1690 edition was published and edited by Laurent Bordelon in Paris.
