Fore edge of the text block is a bit rubbed. The bottom edge is stamped with a library name. Board corner tips neatly repaired. Johann Van der Waeyen (1639-1701) was a Frisian Minister, scholar and controversialist. In 1677 he was forced to leave his position in Middelburg and move to Franeker. A fine 1855 printing of the famous "Ingoldsby
Legends." This collection of myths, ghost stories, and poetry was written by R.H. Barham, who is better known by his penname, Thomas Ingoldsby. These legends were extremely popular from their inception in 1837, but this edition was illustrated with George Cruikshank illustrations! While this collection is somewhat less popular today than it was in the 19th-century, it does include aspects that are still recognizable – the magic command "Abracadabra" and a version of the children's song Bingo!
