Chicago: Stephen Daiter Gallery, 2001, in conjunction with the John Cleary Gallery of Houston. 1st edition. Large photography book / exhibition catalogue. Signed and inscribed by John Cleary (1937-2008), who supplied many of the photos and hosted the inaugural exhibit at his gallery. Promotional postcard for the Cleary Gallery exhibit is laid in. Compelling images by Photo League members. Taken from 1936 to 1951 and aimed at spurring social change through documentary photography. 176 pp, mainly captioned plates. Biographical sketches of the roughly 70 photographers. Clothbound hardcover in dust jacket. Approx. 11.25 x 9.25 inches. VG with some bumps to the edges, tear/wrinkle at the base of the jacket spine. Sound, tight binding. Jacket is protected by a new clear archival cover. A solid, clean copy overall. Uncommon with John Cleary's signature.
