About This Item

Mill Valley CA: Antelope Press, 2004. 1s. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Softcover, 144 pages. INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR on front fly leaf. Photographer of the Early West tells the story of 21-year old Arundel C. Hull caught up in excitement and adventure during construction years of the Union Pacific Railroad. In the spring of 1867 he gathered his photographic gear and headed west from Omaha, following the rails toward the west -- passing track workers, bridge builders, Indian camps, and new frontier towns. Along the way he set up his bulky camera equipment, coated and exposed the glass plate negatives, then developed and sold prints on the spot. After three years of adventure, Hull settled in the village of Fremont, Nebraska. There he opened his own photographic gallery, married a local belle and led development efforts for a water system, a municipal power plant, a telephone system, and an organization of volunteer firefighters. Clean copy, errata slip laid in. Record # 382165
