Color pictorial map endpapers; 20 full-page b&w illustrations. Spine ends a tad rubbed, lower rear corner gently bumped, else a clean, tight copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (light edge wear, a few chips at spine ends, spine quite sunned and a bit rubbed, rear panel lightly soiled).
First edition. The penultimate book in Arthur Ransome's 12 book series of children's adventure novels. Mischief, mayhem, and all sorts of outdoor fun abound when the Callum siblings, Dick and Dorothea, visit the Blackett sisters for the summer at Beckfoot.
Synopsis
Arthur Ransome was born in 1884. He was in Russia in 1917 and witnessed the Revolution, which he reported for the Manchester Guardian. After escaping to Scandinavia, he settled in the Lake District of England with his Russian wife where, in 1929, he wrote Swallows and Amazon s. Thus began a writing career that has produced some of the best children’s literature of all time.
