London: Jonathan Cape, 1943. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 1943. First Edition. 302 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth boards. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Previos owners bookplate on front pastedown.

Synopsis

Arthur Ransome was born in 1884. He was in Russia in 1917 and witnessed the Revolution, which he reported for the Manchester Guardian. After escaping to Scandinavia, he settled in the Lake District of England with his Russian wife where, in 1929, he wrote Swallows and Amazon s. Thus began a writing career that has produced some of the best children’s literature of all time.
