About This Item

London: James Cochrane and Co., 1835. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Volumes 2 and 3 (of 3). Half morocco and marbled paper over boards, gilt-stamped lettering and detail on spine, previous owner's name (J. G. Barker) gilt-stamped in morocco label on front board. Boards and spine scuffed; corners bumped; some faint scattered foxing throughout text block. By the author of THE EXILE OF IDRIA. Volume 2 contains Chapters 1-14 of THE PICTURE (begins, "Mark was so entirely occupied with the recollection of his morning's walk..."), and Chapter 1 of THE PROSPEROUS MAN (begins, "'It is madness, Miss Wyniates, to think of going home on horseback..."). Volume 3 contains Chapters 1-12 of THE PROSPEROUS MAN (begins, "Mr. Townley learnt that the heiress was safe...). So, while the chapters numbers are a bit misleading, this set provides the complete text of THE PROSPEROUS MAN, and only the latter half of THE PICTURE. A scarce first edition.
