Octavo; publisher's cloth in unclipped pictorial dust jacket, red topstain; vii,[1],277pp. Moderate wear to jacket extremities, spine panel a shade sunned, light soil to lighter portions, verso faintly foxed, else Very Good and sound overall, nicer than often encountered. Inscribed and signed on front free endpaper "For French Haynes / with all best wishes, Randall and Mary Jarrell."

The author's only novel, a comedic portrait of a fictitious American women's college, inspired by the author's time at Sarah Lawrence College. This later printing, dated nine months after the first, is bedecked with blurbs from Wallace Stevens, Jean Stafford, Robert Penn Warren, James Agee, and many others.
