New York: George H. Doran Company, 1922. VG-/VG. First edition. First printing. The book is tight with solid hinges and blindstamped tan boards. Red top stain. The textblock is clean with no writing, bookplate, or markings and not BCE, ex-library, or remaindered. Toning strips to endpapers. Pages age-toned. The last two pages are uncut at the top with a small tear. The dust jacket is unclipped ($2.00) on the spine. Quarter-inch closed tear to the top front and an abrasion - not a chip - to the bottom front panel. Protected in a new Brodart Mylar cover. 227 pages. 5¾ x 8¼" tall.

Heywood Broun was an American newspaper columnist and critic, best known for his strong stance against social injustice, and his long-running column "It Seems to Me."

His book, Pieces of Hate and Other Enthusiasms, is a collection of humorous short stories about ordinary instances in daily life. We learn many interesting things about life, such as what it feels like to be a god, and why sometimes it would be a good idea to exchange one's own newborn baby for a better one at the hospital.
