About This Item
Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1926. Hardcover. Very good. Later printing. Inscribed by Ellis Parker Butler to Scottish-born artist Carton Moorepark on the front flyleaf, with an autograph letter signed (ALS) by Butler on his personal letterhead laid in. The Paul Landacre-designed bookplate of literary agent Howard Moorepark appears on the verso of the front flyleaf, opposite a holographic poem in an unidentified hand, perhaps that of Carton Moorepark. The famous short story about a bureaucratic stationmaster who insists on levying the livestock rate for a shipment of two pet guinea pigs, which soon start proliferating exponentially. It was made into a movie several times, including a Walt Disney cartoon (1954) that was nominated for an Academy Award for Animated Short Film. Illustrated by Paul Carruth. Small octavo. Original light brown cloth binding, with pictorial black stamping. The rear hinge is starting. Minor wear to the corners and tips; else very good.
